Tolman was recognized for her performance as Minnesota police officer Molly Solverson. Vanity Fair stated that Tolman "calmly, assuredly stole" the show. The actress won the Critics' Choice Television Award as Best Supporting Actress for a Movie/Miniseries, and was also nominated for Best Actress at both the Emmy Awards & Golden Globes for her role. Tolman's role as a guest on The Mindy Project, playing romance writer Abby Berman for two episodes, was announced the same.
